How It Works

Three things to know

01

Add funds

Top up your account with Stripe or crypto. Your balance stays until you spend it — no expiry, no minimum.

02

Pick a model, drift

Each run costs whatever the model costs on OpenRouter, plus a 7% platform fee. Cheap models cost fractions of a cent. Frontier models cost more.

03

No balance? Free models work

OpenRouter offers free-tier models you can run with a $0 balance. They may have rate limits from the provider, but they cost you nothing.

Questions

The details

What does a typical run cost?

It depends on the model and how many responses you request. A 5-response run on a free model costs nothing. The same run on GPT-4o might cost a few cents depending on output length. Browse the model table above for exact per-token rates.

Does my balance expire?

No. Your balance stays in your account until you use it.

Why the 7% fee?

It covers infrastructure, the response parser, history storage, and ongoing development. OpenDrift doesn’t charge subscriptions or show ads — the platform fee is the only way we sustain the project.

Can I use my own OpenRouter key?

Coming soon. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) will let you connect your OpenRouter API key and pay providers directly at their rates. BYOK requires a small monthly fee to cover platform infrastructure.
